  • What is Quartz?

Quartz is a natural stone and is mined from the earth like diamonds. Provin USA Quartz uses various sized stones of the purest, whitest quartz with some as small as a grain of sand. These small stones are mixed with 7% pigments and resin and compressed, much like how the Earth compresses granite, to form a strong, dense, non-porous slab.

  • Are all brands of Quartz Material the same?

The main difference in the many quartz brands on the market today is the quality of materials used. Our products are handled only by the highest quality quartz and manufactured by its designs at a state-of-the-art facility in the United States which gives our suppliers a color palette with more depth and clarity than other quartz lines.

  • Can I hand select my quartz material?

A benefit of choosing quartz is that the hand selection of material is usually not necessary. For big projects, and if requested, Provin USA can provide you a color photo layout of your project before fabrication begins.

  • Do I need appointment to visit a showroom? What do I need to bring when I visit a showroom?

We want you to stop in when it is convenient for you. We are open Mon-Fri between 9am – 5pm and open on Saturdays to accommodate people with busy schedules.

Visiting our showrooms is the first step in your turning your dream kitchen into reality. We have a few suggestions to help make sure your first visit is successful and you leave with all the information you need.

    1. Bringing a rough sketch with dimensions will allow us to prepare a more accurate quote. Using our Quick Quote Worksheet can help. The worksheet can be downloaded at TEMPLATE (1).

    2. Some of the most helpful items to bring are samples of other materials being used in your project.  A cabinet door or drawer, paint, fabric, and flooring samples can be very helpful with choosing the perfect countertop color.

    3. Take some photos of your project area as these can be helpful explaining your layout.

    4. Bring your questions! We are here to provide the information and resources you’ll need to make the right choices for your new countertops.

    5. We can quickly prepare a quote for you before you leave.

    6. Samples of our countertop colors are available for you to bring home to visualize the choices in your own environment.

  • Does Provin USA need to come out to measure before I receive a quote?

A simple drawing or cabinet layout with measurements is all we need to provide you with an initial quote. Our TEMPLATE (1) on our website shows an example of a simple drawing with measurements. Once an order is placed with a 50% deposit, an appointment is made for the template measure.

  • What happens at a Template?

Our field technician will come to your home to measure for your new countertops.  These measurements are then sent to our engineering department where they are double checked and programmed for fabrication.  Since we use custom measuring, it is not necessary to remove your existing countertops.

  • Do I need to remove my existing countertop for a template?

No, we prefer existing countertops to remain in place for the template as it makes it easier to get an idea of how the material will place. We just ask that you clear items from the countertops to allow our techs to get precise measurements.

  • After submitting my measurements, how do I prepare my kitchen for a template measurement by the techs?

You will need to make sure that any areas that are being measured are permanently installed and ready, this includes cabinets, all panels, sills, etc.  If you have existing tops in place, please clear all items off the tops.  We ask that you have small children away from the template area and have your pets closed off in a separate room. It is best for you to be at the appointment in case the field tech has any questions.

  • What is your lead time?

We strive for the shortest lead times possible, and our focus for a quick turnaround of a week. Our lead times fluctuate due to volume based on the season we are in. The holiday season and spring are typically busier and could have a little longer lead time. Please ask your showroom consultant for our current lead times.

  • Why can't I use remnants for my kitchen?

For larger projects like kitchens, whole slabs are necessary to provide color and pattern consistency, especially when seams are involved. Remnants are usually best used for smaller projects like bath vanity tops.

  • How much overhang can I have on my island before it needs support?

A good rule of thumb is that ⅓ of the width of the countertop can be unsupported with a maximum unsupported overhang of 15” for quartz and 12” for granite tops.  Please refer to our Countertop Support Guidelines (2) for more information.

  • Will there be a seam in my countertop?

Most kitchens will have a seam due to material and handling limitations.  Our engineering department works very hard to line up veining and movement within the material you have chosen. Provin USA will provide a countertop layout prior to making your countertop so you can see where seams will be located.  We use the most up-to-date tools and techniques to achieve the best seams in the industry.  We recommend viewing a sample at one of our showrooms

  • How thick will my countertop be? Does the thickness of natural stone matter?

Most quartz and granite countertops are 3cm which is about 1 ¼”.  For choosing Natural Stone options, the thickness is all about personal choices and thickness is based on what you’d like.

  • Why does Provin USA require me to approve a layout?

Provin USA requires a layout approval to help eliminate any miscommunication during the ordering process and to fully meet your expectations.   You will receive a photo layout of your new countertops before they are cut showing the overall look and seam placement. This allows you to address any concerns and ensure that there will be no surprises on install day.

  • How do I prepare for the installation of my countertops?

Cabinets should be cleared out with drawers removed and placed outside the work area. All construction materials should be removed from the area. Since countertops are very heavy and may cause serious injury if dropped, please keep small children and animals away from the work area. During the installation, a substantial number of trips will be made from the kitchen to an outside work area. Please clear a path for the field technicians to use.

Our What to Expect at Installation (3) checklist will help you prepare for your installation appointment.

  • Do I have to have my cabinets cleaned out for the install?

Yes, we do require your lower cabinets to be completely cleared out with drawers removed so our field technicians have access to the underside of the countertops.

  • How long does an install take?

The number of hours required varies greatly with specifics of each project, but usually the install can be completed in one day.

  • Will the install of my new tops create a mess?

Please expect a little dust. This is normal with any type of installation. However, our field technicians will clean up after themselves and leave the work area in the same condition as when they arrived. The glue used to fasten your countertops to the cabinets and join seams has a chemical odor that dissipates after a few hours.

  • Can I install my own countertops?

Quartz manufacturers require installation by certified field technicians for a valid warranty. If you do have a contractor or installer that is a certified field technician, you may use their services as well.

  • Who will remove my old countertop, sink and faucet?

Provin USA can remove and haul away your existing countertops, sink, and faucet for an additional fee. Please be advised that we do not service any plumbing that is necessary for the installation and detachment of the old material. If you require a Plumber Sub-Contractor, we can refer you.

  • Will Provin USA hook up my new sink & faucet?

No, we do not offer reconnection of plumbing. However, we can refer you to a few plumbers’ sub-contractors who can support your follow-ups.

  • Can I put something hot on my quartz countertop?

We recommend using a hot pad or trivet under any hot pan to protect the surface of your countertop.

  • Can I cut on my quartz countertop?

We do not recommend cutting directly on your countertops. Although quartz and granite countertops are extremely hard and scratch resistant, they are not scratch proof.

  • WIll my quartz countertop chip?

Quartz is the most durable countertop material available but can be susceptible to chipping along the edges when struck by hard objects. These types of chips are usually repairable by certified repair technicians.

  • How do I clean my countertop?

It is best to use soap & water for day-to-day use. If you want something stronger, Provin USA has a list of approved cleaners (4). Please do not use any harsh chemicals or bleach.

  • What is the difference between quartz and natural stone?

If you are in the market for new and affordable countertops, then you are probably faced with making your first decision: choosing natural stone or quartz for your new project. Maybe you knew the difference before, and maybe you didn’t, but it’s important to know that there are some major differences between these two options. We will be discussing the differences between these two materials and the pros and cons of choosing either for your new countertops!

Quartz, in its natural state, is found in large crystals or small, sand-like grains. Once mined, the stone is mixed with man-made materials, like resin, which allows for a cleaner cut and more scratch and stain resistance. Quartz is one of the most popular materials for counters and backsplashes, due to its durability and antimicrobial, non-absorbent properties.

Natural Stone, as the name suggests, comes straight from the earth. Every piece of natural stone is truly unique and unlike any other! Natural stone, such as marble or granite, shows off distinctive and raw patterns that quartz can only mimic through man-made processes. If you are looking for a completely unique and eye-catching piece of stone, then natural stone is the choice for you.
